1. What does "bolshoi" mean?

The word "bolshoi" means the best of all in Russia. Anybody dare to get it without given talent and efforts. When the first tour happened in 1988 - 1989, the press was full of appraisals: the journalists in Paris called the Theatre "Bolshoi on Ice!!!". After being crowned with success the Theatre was awarded another name, Moscow Stars on Ice.

2. History
Bobrin's Ice Theatre was founded in February 1986. Its first performance took place in Tcheliabinsk. At the very beginning there were only 9 artists in the Theatre and they performed together with variety artists. But the dream was to become independent. This resulted in the first production - "Silent Movie, or Meditations on the Theme of Charlie Chaplin" - in a burlesque-ballet style to the libretto of Iljia Reznik (choreography - Natalia Dabbadie). The success of the "Silent Movie" was beyond all expectations.
Alongside with this, the Theatre artists created a winter "aerobics on the snow" program for the Russian TV. And during two years this program was transmitted in winter for the whole Russia by three TV channels. All aerobics fans were dancing together with the USSR, European, World and Olympic champions.
3. Repertoire
"Silent Movie" (Charlie Chaplin's theme, music by Chaplin and Gerschwin)
"Rasputin" (Music by Alexander Gradsky)
"Faust XX Century" (Music by Mikhail Tchekalin)
"Adventure" (Music by Alexander Gradsky, Jewish Folk music)
"Roxy bar and Divertissement pieces"
"Talisman" (music by Bernstein- specially for children)
"We Love Classics" (music by Tchajkovsky, Prokofiev, Mussorgsky, Mendelssohn, Khatchaturian, Paganini, Ravel, Bach, Hemer Berger and other composers)
"Jungle Story"
"Tango"

In 1998 the artistic director and choreographer of the Theatre, Igor Bobrin, effected a production of the new performance, "Alice In Wonderland" after the book of Lewis Carrol (music by Alexander Rosenblatt) which has already been shown in Seoul (35 performances) and toured in Switzerland and France for almost two months.

4. Characteristics
Perhaps the secret of such a success lay in the fact that the artistic combination of theatre action with ice ballet gave birth to an absolutely new genre, and Bobrin's Ice Theatre was the first that followed this absolutely unknown way. And first of all there are many champions who can create a wonderful show.
The theatre has got great experience in wide range performing: from the Olympic stadium in Sapporo to a summer park in Italy, in the USA (Florida) and Euro Disney in Paris, a lot of year of independent artistic and organizational work, 21 countries (in some of them the theatre performed 4-5 times), 8 performances, more than 60 pieces in a divertissement, which allows to adapt the program for any public, any area, any stage. As a rule, theatre performances consist of two parts (a one-act ballet and ice divertissement) with the duration of 110-120 minutes, including a 15-minutes break for the ice preparation.
5. Tour

From the very beginning and until now tours of the Theatre have been very successful not only in Russia, but also abroad in such countries as Germany and Holland, Denmark and Switzerland, Andorra and Austria, Israel and Bahrain, Korea (both North and South), Poland, as well as the USA, Japan, Turkey, Taiwan, France and Italy.
It was a success that was followed by tours all over the world.
6. Artists

In 1988, after Natalia Bestemianova together with Andrei Bukin won their Olympic Gold in Calgary, they became the leading soloists of the Theatre.
Besides stars of the theatre who are permanently engaged there, a lot of outstanding ice-skaters, European, World and Olympic Games champions have participated in the tours: Yeltsova / Bushkov, Urmanov, Vladimir Kotin and others.
